Since 1 May 2024, Western Australia applies heated water delivery temperature control not just to brand new installations but whenever a water heater is replaced, relocated or added. In plain English: swapping your unit brings the tempering requirement into play, and the water to the bath and shower has to be limited at the outlet.

That’s why two quotes for the same system can be hundreds of dollars apart. One has allowed for the temperature control work and the other hasn’t. So ask. A quote that leaves it out isn’t a cheaper job, it’s an incomplete one – and Building and Energy publish the requirement openly if you’d like to read it yourself.

On the bigger West Swan properties the hot water unit is often a long way from the bathrooms, which is why the wait at the tap feels endless and why a good deal of heat gets lost on the way. Bore or rainwater supply changes what we’d recommend too, because water quality affects tank and element life.
