Newer homes round here bring their own list: adding a gas point to the alfresco, upgrading builder-spec tapware, and the first replacement of the continuous flow unit that came with the house. Small lots also mean the hot water system often sits close to a neighbour’s window, which matters if you’re thinking about a heat pump.

Renovation gas work is mostly about getting the order right. Points need capping before demolition, relocating while the wall is open, and commissioning once the cabinetry lands. Miss that sequence and each one becomes a separate visit, which nobody wants to pay for.

We’d much rather map it out with you at the start than get called to a kitchen where the cooktop cut-out has already been made in the wrong spot. Same goes for outdoor kitchens – run the line before the paving goes down and it costs a fraction of doing it afterwards.

Splash and Gas will take any hot plate problem seriously and fix it properly, or install a brand new one with ease if you’re upgrading the kitchen.

Cooktop changeovers are one of our most common jobs, and the bit people underestimate is the cut-out. New cooktops rarely match the footprint of the old one, so the benchtop may need modifying and the gas point may sit in the wrong spot for the new burner layout. We measure before we disconnect anything – a dull habit that’s saved a lot of benchtops.

In newer Seville Grove homes the alfresco is normally already framed, and sometimes even stubbed for gas, which makes a BBQ point a genuinely small job. Check the plans before you assume it isn’t there – builders do occasionally run the line and cap it off.

What About a Heat Pump?
Heat pump hot water is a genuine option and it deserves a straight assessment rather than a sales pitch. They’re efficient because they move heat rather than making it, and Perth’s climate suits them nicely.

The trade-offs are real though. They have a fan and a compressor, so yes, they do make noises – and where the unit goes matters if a neighbour’s bedroom window is close by. They also want airflow, so a tight enclosed spot is the wrong spot. We’ll look at where your current unit sits and tell you honestly whether a heat pump works there or whether the pipework needs to move.

Newer Seville Grove homes were typically handed over with a continuous flow gas unit, and the first wave of those is now old enough to fail. Good news is the pipework is modern, so a replacement is usually a clean swap in the same position.
