Why the Jobs Round Here Look the Way They Do
Darling Downs runs to larger blocks, and once you’re on acreage the plumbing questions change shape entirely.
The plumbing extends well past the house – standpipes, troughs, shed supply, tanks, pumps and often bottled gas at the end of a long line. More to go wrong, and more to isolate, which is why knowing which valve does what is genuinely useful before something bursts.
- More isolation valves than anyone can remember the purpose of
- On-site wastewater capacity limiting new fixtures
- Long supply runs out to sheds, troughs and standpipes
- Pumps, tanks and pressure systems rather than mains pressure
The point of knowing all this is that it makes the quote honest. A Darling Downs job priced without looking at what’s actually behind the wall is a guess.
Gas Work, Done Safely
Gas Plumber Darling Downs
If you’ve got a gas problem at your home, please don’t have a go at it yourself. We know it’s tempting, and we know someone always knows someone who’ll do it cheaper. Here’s the thing: unlicensed gas work voids the warranty on your appliance, and if your insurer ever goes looking after a fire or a leak, they’ll find it. It really isn’t worth it.
Every gas job has to be done by a licensed gas fitter, and Splash and Gas hold both the plumbing licence and the gas fitting permit. One van, both tickets, which matters more than you’d think – hot water, cooktops and heaters all sit across the two trades. Call us on 0410 217 090 and we’ll sort it out properly.
On the bigger blocks around Darling Downs, gas usually turns up in bottles rather than through a meter, and the run from the bottles to the house – and often out to a shed or a second dwelling – is long enough to matter. Long lines need sizing correctly, or the appliance at the far end never performs properly.
Appliance Changeovers
New Kitchen Appliances, Darling Downs
Ovens, cooktops and rangehoods tend to get bought as a set and installed by three different trades, which is exactly how kitchens round here end up half finished for a fortnight. The gas appliances need the gas fitter; the rest needs the electrician and the cabinetmaker.
We’re perfectly happy to be told the date the benchtop lands and work back from there. Tell us the models when you book and we’ll bring the right fittings the first time.
Out on the bigger Darling Downs blocks, appliances are often further from the bottles than the installation manual ever assumed, and outdoor cooking areas are frequently detached from the house altogether. That’s all fine – it just needs the line sized for the distance and the load.
Hot Water Service and Change Over
Hot Water Change Over Darling Downs
Replacing a hot water system is usually a same-day job, and most of the variation in price comes from what changes rather than from the unit itself. Like-for-like in the same position is the simple version.
Change the fuel type, the capacity or the location and the job now involves new pipework, possibly a new gas run or some electrical work, plus the temperature control requirements that come with any replacement. We’d far rather set all that out before we start than surprise you at the end. Splash and Gas have no call out fee during working hours, so we can come and measure up and talk it over at your home.
On the bigger Darling Downs properties the hot water unit is often a long way from the bathrooms, which is why the wait at the tap feels endless and why a good deal of heat gets lost on the way. Bore or rainwater supply changes what we’d recommend too, because water quality affects tank and element life.
